Overview
The Junior Estimator is critical to the organization to ensure the production of detailed labor and material budgets for each project utilizing the established tools and guidelines.
Responsibilities
Takeoff (40%)
- Precisely and thoroughly analyze all variables for each project to create and list all correct material and labor takeoffs to ensure appropriate billing breakdowns
- Thoroughly forecast labor utilization and calculate materials required for each project
Communication (30%)
- Clearly communicate installation strategy and material handling allocation to appropriate personnel
- Carefully ensure effective handoff of project information from estimating to field staff by specifically communicating unique needs or pertinent items for each project with field construction staff during handoff meetings
- Proactively communicate with subject matter experts needed for each project, phase, or system and collaborate with project managers
- Independently reach out to CAD for support in receiving accurate takeoff for portions of the building
Budget (15%)
- Accurately set up system templates to start staging each job by reviewing historical data on past jobs to capture similarities in approach and consistency in the budget; incorporating appropriate building and unit counts, unit matrixes, and job styles
Information Gathering (10%)
- Vigorously review all applicable documents including the scope of work, contracts, prints, proposals, schedules and estimates to gain an overall perspective for each project
- Methodically account for construction schedule, sequencing, geographic area, travel, and type of build (value engineered or design-build) while developing budgets
- Clearly communicate with the purchasing department to ensure accurate quotes on each job basis
Submittals (5%)
- Thoroughly compile all applicable information for submittals and ensure each relevant internal party and the builders receive complete, accurate submittals

Critical Skills & Knowledge
- Clear, effective communications skills – both written and verbal

- Basic knowledge of Microsoft business suite of products
- Mastery of Excel formula creation preferred
- Ability to use Bluebeam software or other PDF editing software
- CAD or Revit experience preferred
- Preference for accuracy, attention to detail, and organization
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- 1 – 2 years of field experience in construction, plumbing, or HVAC with a solid understanding of plumbing and HVAC
Working Conditions
- Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting
- Moderately noisy environment with light traffic, office equipment, and guest entrance
- Sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature
